Finally the Sunshine Coast gets a music festival that doesn't require booking accommodation or finding the rare legend who volunteers to be the day's designated driver. Maroochydore Music and Visual Arts Festival is probably the biggest and best thing to happen to the coast since the relaunch of 'The Helm' lol remember that. It's exciting times here, particularly with all the revamping going on around Ocean St and the surrounds atm. Like the One Day crew said, Maroochydore has made it, now scream for me like you did when they said it pls.
The lineup of artists booked for the very first MMVAF was more than what you would have expected. As soon as the announcement of acts like The Kite String Tangle, Alpine and Hermitide being booked, the buzz about this new festival spread faster than the Swine Flu did in 2009. The buzz pun was intended thank you for noticing. Then of course possibly the worst kept secret on the Sunshine Coast was that our greatest exports, Flight Facilities, were coming home as the "secret" headliners. shh.
10 things that we should all takeaway from our new local Music & Arts Festival
1. Abandoned golf courses make for the perfect festival setup
2. No mud! Splendour pls take note of beautiful drainage system
3. Couches in the Amphitheatre...genius.
4. Sailor Jerry was the most popular guy out
5. I only saw 1 giant glowing bunny get killed, which is good for us, I think.
6. The Kite Sting Tangle brings friends (Tiana Khasi and Dustin
Tebbutt)
7. Flight Facilities, Owl Eyes and Kurt Kristen w/o doubt win the award for team of the year
8. 1 naked shoulder standing person (obvs male, obvs as soon as Owl Eyes appeared)
9. 1 near casualty in Flight Facilities moshpit *raises hand*
10. 30 min intervals between sets was extremely appreciated #noclashes <3 <3
Basically last Saturday was proof that everyone knows everyone on the Sunshine Coast and we all love a big fat party. I am also genuinely surprised at how well behaved everyone was, I'm putting that down to the presence of a lot of mums and dads though. Good effort Sunshine Coast and big ups to the festival organisers, ya did good, a hole-in-one some might even say. Cya in 2016.
