Hey Banana Boat! Enjoying the sun? I got sizzled today and my tan lines a REKT! Today was hot af, wanna know what else is hot? SVANI. ~segway~

I haven't done a special lil feature on a artist for a while so I though I'd come in strong with SVANI in 2016. I don't really remember the first thing I heard from her, but I know I was lovin' her last year. Now that I think really hard about it, it could have been her remix of Icy Coral but I can't be 100% #FreeGucci :'(

SVANI delivered one of my fav triple j Mixup Exclusives not too long ago, based purely on her track selection I can confirm this girl is a great time and I would like to attend her next party, pls. She also pumped out some fire originals, YAASSS is one that is as lit as the name would suggest.

Now to further secure her place in my orange Soundcloud heart and my heart IRL, she dropped a lil 5 track bundle of free edits that I have been LIVIN' off for the past few days, personal fav is her msmsmsm edit featuring Sugur Shane jumping on with some sik rhymes, wait no her remix of Rewind by Kelela is so fucking good too tho. It's a tie. You are all winners!

Enough living in the past, let's discuss the now, or better yet 'the futch' to follow Kanye's lead.  SVANI is someone I really want and have a feeling will start poppin' up left right and centre this year. I highly recommend getting caught up (if you aren't already) on her mixes, edits and originals so you can be that "I found her ages ago" person we all luv to be but kinda despise at the same time \_(ツ)_/¯

Bye Nina.

Last Saturday night was super emotional. It was Nina Las Vegas' last ever time hosting Mix Up Exclusive on triple j. For someone who started listening to triple j because of Nina and her voiebox of dreams, seeing her go was a pretty big deal.

On to bigger and better things, it was a huge celebration, there was a party in the studio featuring all the triple j crew and there was a massive farewell show planned. There were 8 exclusive 20 min mixes from some of Nina's high profile friends, Cashmere Cat, Diplo, RL Grime, Flume, Flight Facilities, Anna Lunoe and one friend who's profile is not as large but had my favourite set of the nigh, DJ Levins a.k.a Levdawg. There were also countless goodbye and good luck messages from, Skrillex, A-Track, Brodinski, Alison Wonderland and many many more.

Between mixes, Nina played some of her fave tracks including my personal #1's, Lemonade by SOPHIE and Man Don't Care by JME and Giggs. Fellow triple j queen Linda Marigliano stayed and partied 'till the end, essentially becoming Nina's slightly intoxicated hype girl towards the end of the show (which was the best thing ever).

Letting Flume be the last guest she presents as the host of Mix Up Exclusive, Nina said her ty's and goodbyes breaking the nations heart with her final 'goodnight'. Not all sad news, NLV isn't really going anywhere, just slightly changing her role in the scene by starting her own record label, NLV Records as well as making more music herself.

Regardless, i'm gonna miss hearing her on the radio like everyone else. It's been real, Nina.

Obseen Rhymes With Caffeine, Coincidence? I think not.

Hi ya lil succulent. I haven't done a feature for a couple of weeks, have you noticed? Probs not because you are too busy having the time of your life with the playlists i've been making for you. It's time to cut that out though because I have someone you might want to meet if you like things that are good and fun.

Part of the Wile Out label, Sydney boy Obseen is like the "+ 4 wild card" in UNO. He can work with pretty much anything and when it gets dropped you know some shit is about to go down. The first track I heard from him was his remix of Ice Rink by Cashmere Cat & DJ Mustard and it is one of the best out there. Aside from that, he has been putting out other remixes, bootlegs and originals for about a year now. 

A lot of Obseen's stuff is a forward thinking blend of house, trap and jersey. Buucardi is his latest release, that just came out on the 16th and it's a totally wild . It starts out super dramatic and then rolls into this fabulously daffy hook that when I hear it makes me feel like a fresh prince. I can tell he killed it at lego as a kid because of how well this track builds, or maybe he was more of a building blocks kinda guy, idk. Either way I appreciate it v much. 

Here is some great news for people who do not like to buy music with their precious numbers ($$), Obseen here has generously allowed for people to download his artworks of sound FO' FREE yeiii boiiiiz!! It's like consensual stealing so get around it if you want to feel like a BAMF. 

Expect more fiery heaters from Obseen in ~the future~ but in the meantime you can pretend you are in the future by listening below :)

Thank Me Later Thursday: GRRL PAL

Hey fairy lips, I have a present for you. This magical package comes in the form of glitter sounds and rainbow juice for your ear holes from two babes from Perth, Danny Kay and Jay Lekat, better known under their moniker, GRRL PAL (to be real I was already 75% sold by their name alone but their music is just as super qt).

I am all about this musical couple right now, their music, their videos, their style, that production, that voice, I'M ALL ABOUT IT! I found this dream team one night as I was gold mining on Triple J's Unearthed website and as soon as I heard the intro to 'Dare' I knew they were right up my alley. Naturally, I put all 3 of their uploaded tracks on repeat for an amount of time I do not wish to disclose and then proceeded to follow them on every existing social media platform because this is 2015 and what else do you do in your spare time?

 They are an electro pop outfit that have created a sound for themselves that builds really beautifully and is so easy to listen to with all your bff's or alone in your bedroom. They have said they are influenced by 3 of my own music crushes, Grimes, Purity Ring and MØ (you guys should know by now how much I love this Danish babe). Pulling inspiration from these 3 artists it is no wonder I fell so hard for GRRL PAL straight away.

They currently have 5 songs under their belts but you can expect more where those little beauties came from as the pair have stated that they will be gifting us all with a brand new song every month this year! I am so giddy about these quirky kids and will be waiting patiently each month for their new release.

So eager beavers, take a dive into my world right now and feel free to thank me at a later date.

BIGGEST UPS: Tkay Maidza

Hey there glitter balls, so I had assumed that I already made a post about this bouncy lil babe but as I scrolled through my blog searching for grammatical errors that I never, but really should check for before posting, it became a horrific realisation that I had somehow let this much time go by without giving Tkay Maidza the big ups she deserves.  So let me educate the less fortunate souls who haven't got any of this magic in their lives yet.

Tkay has been hip hopping around the Australian music scene for about a year and already has experienced a generous amount of success, landing spots on festivals around the country and being selected for some pretty big support acts for artists like Illy and Charlie XCX.

Zimbabwe born, Rad-elaide raised she is the sassiest 18 year old going around for e.g one of her first songs is titled "Handle My Ego" and she never fails to "brat rap" the crap out of everyone. Pretty much every single track she has ever released is a goddamn hit. Her flow is super fast and super funky fresh and as much as you desperately want to have a karaoke sesh to her verses, it's almost impossible to live up to the skill it takes to speak the english language that quickly. Not only are her raps witty as hell and so energetic but they are the perfect marriage with the incredibly bouncy electronic beats under the track.

Tkay's live shows are everything you expect them to be and so much more, guaranteed to have you vibe cats out there putting your thang down flipping it and reversing it all over the place and walking out a slimy, sweaty, stupidly happy mess, but in the best way possible. 10/10 would recommend

M.O.B (Money Over Bitches) is the latest track Tkay Maidza has put out, premiered on Triple J's "Breakfast with Matt and Alex" just yesterday and let me tell you, there is no acoustic instruments used, there are a decent amount of drops and they are dope af, therefore IT IS A BANNGGGERRR!!

I could literally write a short story about my love for TT Maidza and how I think she is about to explode her rainbow juices over everything and everyone this year, but i'll let you see for yourselves.

Big Ups : Client Liasion

Big ups this week goes to ultimate funk daddy's 'Client Liasion'. Like a time warp straight back to the late 80's/ early 90's, this Aussie duo, made up of Monte Morgan and Harvey Millar, makes me think of old tape recorders, synths and fax machines both sonically and visually. These guys are so fascinating and unique you can't even begin to compare them to anything else.  They got their mullets and bleached blowouts above the surface through Triple J's 'Unearthed' platform, like so many other big home grown acts of 2014. After gaining a bit of  a following on their and generous airtime on Triple J radio, Client Liaison won a spot on the lineup for Melbournes infamous Laneway Festival in January last year.  Their debut, self-titled EP came out in September of last year and was well received by the Triple J and RAGE presenters and listeners alike (the cool kids of Australia). My personal favourites of this little gem are 'Queen' and ' Feed The Rhythm" and if this is what they can produce for their first ever EP, I am looking forward to seeing what they can do with a full length album. BIG UPS CL!

New Year and Caribou

Hi, hows it going, was your new years a raging dance party? Did you bust out some dance moves that emerged in a drunken stupor, blair all the classic party anthems of 2014, listen to a countdown or watch music videos on MTV and drink every time you saw someone dance on top of a school bus or twerk upside down? No matter what you did I hope it was one to remember. In terms of new music I have a ridiculously long waiting list of songs I need to post about, but rather than bombard you with it all at once, I'm going to be slowly resuscitating you back to life after your extreme hangovers over the next couple of weeks. Lets start with a artist feature to get you're 2015 off to a funky start shall we.

CARIBOU 

One of the best album releases of 2014 in my opinion, I had only heard a couple of the singles and have just recently gotten a chance to hear the whole LP from start to finish. 

I first heard of Caribou ( Dan Snaith) on Triple J radio then soon after found out he would be at Laneway this year. I knew there was quite a bit of hype about him so I got to researching and there is some serious vibes with this guy and the really easy to listen to, flowy electronic music he makes. Dan Snaith is no new name, he has been around since 2001 performing under a couple different stage names, Caribou since 2005. His last album as 'Caribou' was back in 2012 but he came back strong in October 2014 with 'Our Love'. 

The first time I heard the lead single "Can't Do Without You" I liked it but I wasn't completely sold enough to need in my iTunes, however when I revisited it later I was convinced and ended up downloading the entire album. Someone to watch in 2015.

Feature Artist: Years and Years

I have been meaning to do a feature on these guys for a while now but have been procrastinating a bit and making playlist instead but I think now is a good time to introduce you to Years and Years, if you don't already know them, and if you do, I hope you are up to date with their latest releases. This electro-pop trio are based in London and consist of english boys Olly Alexander and Emre Turkman and the Aussie, Mikey Goldsworthy. The boys debuted in 2012 with their single "I Wish I Knew" but their most recent single "Desire" of their debut album "Take Shelter" see's the boys really starting to make waves. After the release of the single "Take Shelter" reached the #1 spot on the UK Singles Electronic Chart. Their sound can be described as a mix between The Weeknd and Flight Facilities. Keep your eye out for these boys in the new year because I sense that they are about to breakthrough and become and big part of the electro-pop scene. Take a listen and see for yourself.

Feature Artist : Little Dragon

Little Dragon have been making music together for 18 years and have really stood the test of time. I first heard about Little Dragon about 3 years ago when they featured on SBTRKTs song 'Wildfire' and instantly fell in love with Yukimi's voice, so when I heard that the group were working on a new album for this year I couldn't wait for it to came out. Now that it is out I have played it over and over again and let me tell you, it is amaaaazing! I have listened to their singles 'Paris' and 'Klapp Klapp' 1 Million times on repeat and still refuse to press the skip button when they come up on shuffle, . There is seriously something the Sweeds aren't telling us, as you know I am obscessed Elliphant who also calls Sweden home, so i'd like to know what is in the water over there!

JUNGLE Boogie

While I was away I came across a band that is new and exciting, a completely fresh and innovative sound, Jungle are the disco funk revival we have all been waiting for. Jungle are a London based soul music duo, their self titled debut album dropped earlier this year and was raved about on just about every music sharing platform.  Their unique and infectious sound showcases tropical percussion, 70's baselines and falsetto vocals that are too funkalicious to resist head bopping and clicking along to. Jungle, accompanied by their 5- piece band, made it onto the Glastonbury, SXSW and Splendour in The Grass lineup mid this year attracting even more fans onto the Jungle train with their passionate and high energy set leaving people in awe of their live sound. Drawing comparisons to Jungle is nearly impossible, true trail blazers who have a huge career ahead of them. If you are in Australia, Jungle are set to return at the end of January next year for St Jeromes Laneway Festival, tickets available on the festival website now!

ICYMI: The Preatures

I have been a huge fan of The Preatures for a while now and have championed them ever since I heard their summer anthem "Is This How You Feel" for the first time. This Australian 5 piece have just put out their debut album 'Blue Planet Eyes' and it is incredibly good. They have a style that is immediately identifiable within the first few seconds of hearing one of their songs, yet they haven't fallen into the trap of making all their songs sound the same because it worked the first time. Front woman Isabella "Izzi" Manfredi's voice is a so powerful and strong, even raspy at times, reminding me a bit of Stevie Nicks, while the band have often been dubbed the Australian HAIM, I like to think they are a bit more unique and find comparisons a bit lazy, but i can see the connection. I have seen this band live a couple of times and the energy they bring is so infectious they get the whole crowd dancing and singing their lungs out. The group have already experienced a credible amount of success off the back of their self titled EP, which saw them doing the rounds on the festival circuit both locally and internationally, landing a spot on the infamous Coachella lineup and playing Australia's Splendour in The Grass festival. The Preatures are set to return home for a national tour in November and believe me, you don't want to miss it!

!! ELLIPHANT !!

I had a different post scheduled in for tonight but... Elliphant's "One More" EP just got released 12 hours ago and I need to give this to you right now! I first heard about Ellipant (real name Ellinor Olovsdotter )through my love for MØ (who features on the track 'One More'). Within the first 5 seconds of each song on this EP I was completely convinced and knew I had found one of my favourite EP releases of 2014 , she is so rad!, I feel so badass when I listen to her, and if you need a pick-me-up after a shitty day, Elliphant can help you out! Her Swedish accent makes her songs that much cooler and with the help of producers 'Jungle' (not to be confused with the band 'Jungle') she has curated a sound for herself that is a delicious concoction of dance-hall, techno, electronic and futuristic sounds. One of my favourite artist's at the moment, get on this shit.

Hey Sista Soul Sista: MEG MAC

I have fallen deeply and madly in love with Megan Mclnerny "Meg Mac" (you can see why a stage name was necessary). This 23 year old, Sydney born songstress just released her debut EP which has proven that she is one of the most refreshing and genuinely talented artists out there right now.  Her sound is heavily influenced by old motown and soul, making it hard to compare her to anything else out there at the moment.  With the help of Triple J's Unearthed platform behind her, Meg has really cemented herself into Australia's independent music scene, performing at last years Falls Festival, opening the Aus Indie Awards and more recently, headlining a sold out Australian tour. Earlier in the year Meg covered Broods' track 'Bridges' for Triple J, which was named in the Top 20 Like A Version's by ToneDeaf which you can watch here. I have had the pleasure of seeing Meg Mac live and her huge voice was flawless from start to finish, a dramatic and captivating set that I could watch over and over again. Check her out now so you can be one of those people that says "I knew her before she got big".
